TFS 2015 Build Logs

I'm testing out the Build vNext in TFS 2015 RC2 and I can't seem to find the MSBuild/Build output logs after the build is run. Is there some configuration that I'm missing to be able to review the build's output after the fact?

Also, when I click on "Download all logs as zip" the downloaded zip file only has an empty "Build" folder in it.

Thanks!

TFS Query Returns invalid results on Custom Integer Field

This is related to a question I just asked on the MSDN forum about querying a custom field with a negative value.

We have defined a custom field in Bug, Product Backlog Item, and Feature templates, called "Acme Tester", and defined it as an Integer.  We are able to store both positive and negative values in this custom field.  However, in the TFS Web Portal, we are unable to query Acme Tester for a value such as -20768. That is the gist of my previous forum question.

A second issue is that if I query where Acme Tester < 0, then in the results, I get work item types FOR WHICH ACME TESTER IS NOT DEFINED!  We have not defined this field in the Task template, yet Tasks are showing up in the results for this query. This is completely wrong. Any ideas?

Cannot start Team Foundation Backgroud Job Agent service

When I start "Team Foundation Backgroud Job Agent" service in Services.msc, it gives me this message.

The Visual Studio Team Foundation Backgroud Job Agent service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

Wanted to fix this because of 2 issue:

1.I can't view my Kanban board and I'm getting this error in the web portal: TF401052:It took too long to load the board configuration. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

2.Window Group user doesn't get sync into TFS

Upon restart of server getting error: TF400324 TF400324: Team Foundation services are not available from server . Technical Information (for administrator):

I had installed TFS 2012 on our Windows 2008R2 server, there was a conflict in the port 8080 so I ran TCPView.exe to see what was using the port and it was ApplicationWebServer.exe

I killed that process to get TFS running and it seemed to fix the issue, we finished configuring the Application Tier of TFS and created a repository and users. Things seemed fine until we had to restart the server today due to unrelated issues.

Got the same error when trying to connect to TFS, went into TCPView.exe shutdown the ApplicationWebServer.exe process and we are still getting the TF400324 error.

I have followed advioce of others to clear the cache as mentioned in this post

http://www.ganshani.com/blog/2014/03/solved-tf400324-team-foundation-services-are-not-available-from-server/

but to no avail.

Is there a way to reset and move the port used by TFS??

Thank you in advance,

Mike

Hello,

I am running:

1) Team Foundation Server v1
2) MS Office Project Standard 2003 SP2

Steps:

1) Create new MS Project (linked to TFS project)
2) Past project tasks in
3) Publish to server - success
4) Refresh and get "TF82039: Team Foundation was unable to modify the project plan"

I have tried saving the MS Project plan to a new file and refreshing with no luck.  I am not running Project Server.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Is TFS 2013 (12.0.31101.0) Update4 supported with SQL Server 2014 (12.0.4100.1) SP1?

We have upgraded SQL 2014 SP1 for the TFS and seeing issues now.

Please confirm this as we are severely getting impacted.

Altaf B.

How do I modify what is displayed on the TFS Project's Home Page?

TFS 2013 update 4, SharePoint 2013 server

I can't find an article to explain how to modify the home page.  For example:

How do I change the components that are displayed?

One specific question I have: Can I add more than one iteration on the home page at a time?

Added after initial post: I have identified that none of my accounts including Administrator have "Add to team favorites" enabled on the drop down menu next to items that might be added to the Home page.  The screen shot below is from the Work > Queries page on the TFS project site.

Where do I confirm the setting to enable that command?

Application Tier & Build Server Version Compatibility Questions...

Hi all,

Soon we will be readying a Build Server for CI for our new product currently in development.  I've been experimenting, learning, playing in a 2013 TFS App Tier/2013 Build Server environment.  However, I've come to learn that the new product Development team is using VS 2015 (prerelease).

So, I think I may have an issue with version compatibility.  In the Build Machine Upgrade Tips ofhttps://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee259687.aspx it indicates than an earlier version Build Server can work with a more recent version of the Application Tier, but I'm guessing this cannot be the case if the tables were turned.  If I create the Build Server for the new product with the 2015 Build Service, I see conflict in working with TFS App Tier 2013, which will remain in place until the official release of 2015.  If I'm incorrect with that guess, please let me know!!

If that is correct, what are my options?  Should we hold off on CI until the company fully moves to TFS/VS 2015.  I guess I could try the Build Server as 2013 with VS 2013 installed, but I don't see that working too well compiling the newer 2015 projects.

If anyone could provide insight into a way out of my dilemma I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Thanks ahead of time!!

TFS & SQL Server?

We discovered that when we originally setup TFS in the past we really set it up incorrectly. The database server we are using for TFS is only used for TFS and nothing else. The decision was made then to go with SQL Server enterprise even though, SQL Standard was included. We are trying to fix that decision because of licensing cost. We generally keep keep our TFS server up to date. Right now we are on TFS 2013 Update 4. We know that TFS 2015 release is coming soon so trying to proactive we decided to upgrade sql server.

So we decided to try to upgrade our sql server. We are currently on SQL Server 2012 enterprise. We were trying to upgrade to SQL Server 2014 SP1 standard. The upgrade wizard didn't find any issues. The only dialog thing i really had to answer if i wanted to rebuilt the full text index which i elected to do. After upgrading all the TFS databases were suspect though. We tried to restore from a TFS backup but the same thing happened (all the databases were suspect). As a last ditch effort we did an edition upgrade from SQL Server 2014 Standard to SQL Server 2014 enterprise which fixed the problem.

Now i know TFS doesn't require SQL Server enterprise or it wouldn't come with standard and it would be a very expensive product :). What i don't know is when you install TFS it goes...well it looks like you have the enterprise version of sql server is installed so i'm going to do some extra stuff.

Does anyone know if this is a TFS issue or a SQL Server issue? Was the issue created because we went from sql server 2012 enterprise to sql server 2014 standard and we should have instead either downgraded before upgrading to 2014 or upgraded to sql server 2014 enterprise and then downgraded the edition to 2014 standard?

Lab Management Setup 2013

Currently trying to plan out lab management setup.

I've see some say that the Hyper-V needs to be on a physical server and some say otherwise.

The same has been said for the SCVMM server.

What type of machine is suitable for those?

Hi All,

One of our client wants to migrate SnapshotCM to TFS. I searched in internet, but didn't find any links or document.

Is it possible to migrate snapshotCM to TFS with version control history?

If it's possible, please provide me the documentation or some links to do.

Thanks,

Rajukumar

How do I modify apearance in TFS tickets

Hello.

I use TFS as part of VS 2013 (soon VS 2015). I have a good editor there where I can write tickets and more.

But I can't set upp table, shadows in cells, paste pictures in right places. I can do a lot, but I want an editor who is more or less like Word - with more controls. I can't see anything specific setup where I can do more than just basic things.

Is Word integration an option?

Move team project folders and keep history

Hi all,

I've moved a few folders that were under a team project in TFS into another team project.

The move worked fine and everything was kept, including history.

But now I deleted the original team project where the folders were originally and when I check the history under the files on the new location everything is gone.

Do I need to keep the original team projects in order to keep track if previous history changes?

How to handle dependent test cases within TFS 2013

$

what would be the best way to handle dependent test cases within TFS 2013? (e.g. you have three test cases A, B and C. B depends on A and can only be run, if A has been run successfully and C depends on B and can only be run if B hast been run successfully) I thought about linkin the test cases using the "predecessor/successor" link type. But I'm missing a good controlling, tracking and reporting functionality within TFS for these "linked test lists" (I would prefer not to use MS Project if possible / Excel would be OK). Automatic handling during testsessions would also be nice (Test B will be blocked by the system if Test A has not been run successfully...).

TFS 2013 git repository limit

We have a TFS 2013 project with over 100 git repositories in it. It looks like the drop down list of repositories under the team project in Visual studio 2013 stops at 100. Is there a way to make Visual Studio show all?
