Double Project Names that VSTS created

$

I am testing out VSTS and so far love it. One issue or question I have is I created a test project called 'SDLC Test Project 2'. I added some items in Kanban board, open VS from it, did a git flow, added code, pushed, etc... Basically was testing it out. At one point I went back to the "Account Home" view and I saw that VSTS create a new project for me called 'SDLC Test Project 2 / SDLC Test Project 2 Team' for me. What is that?

I see the one I created is still there and has a folder icon and the one the system created has a multi-folder icon. They both seem to point to the same to the same stuff, as in repos, Kanban board etc as in I can create a item in the Kanban board in one project and then go to the other project and see it.

Has anyone see this behavior?

Thanks

Ralph

tfs local Solution Explorer different from Source Control Explorer

Our TFS Collection has the correct code including all necessary dependencies, folders and projects to make and compile the complete solution. HOWEVER, when I download (Get Latest Version) the files including the sln file and open it within Visual Studio 2015 Solution Explorer, many folders, and even some projects are missing and the build fails. I have tried to clean and rebuild and even delete and recreate the workspace, but always it's the same. How can I get locally EXACTLY what appears on the TFS server??? Why is it different? It is also important to note that the local files and structure appear correct int the FILE SYSTEM outside of visual studio, it is ONLY when opening and viewing the solution in Solution Explorer within Visual Studio 2015 that everything appears incorrectly and hence won't build...

TFS - Server Side Cache Problem on Project Collection Basis

$

Hi,
There are two project collections in TFS server we set up before. In the second collection, I' ve created a custom process template. And the link types of Test Case work item were limited due to the requests. So, Shared Step and Shared Parameter named link types was removed from the definition of Test Case work item. The decision has been changed, after that, I've put the relation types( Shared Step & Shared Parameter ) into the definition of Test Case again. But It is not listed in the projects after uploading the laast definition. I've tried to explore the reasons behind ot this non-working scenario. I've uploaded the custom process template into the other project collection for the first time, and when created a new project with this template, the link types were represented. Most probably, It is a server side cache problem ! I've restarted the server two times, and cleared the cache held in the following location ;

C:\TfsData\ApplicationTier\_fileCache

But none of them solved my problem. This is the second time I've faced cache problem on project collection basis. Could you plase help me to solve this type of problems ? I think it is a big problem, and my colleuges are waiting me to solve this problem just to be able to create Test Cases. Is there any way of solution which can be applied ? The first thing I would like to learn which type of data held and where is it ? There must be something which prevents the work item link types update somewhow. Additionally, in database side , is there any data which can cause this sort of problems ?

TFS SharePoint Extensions cannot be configured on SharePoint 2016 - TF254027

Hello,

we want to integrate SharePoint 2016 with TFS2015.3.

We installed the SharePoint Extentions on the only SharePoint Server, but the configuration fails.

Apparently SharePoint is not recognized as installed although the Farm is working properly.

We keep getting the following message:

TF255265: SharePoint must be installed and configured on this machine before you can configure SharePoint Extensions

Strange is also that one cannot configure the setting of the installed farm and the wizard tries to connect to default ports/websites that are not correct:

I am wondering if SharePoint 2016 is compatible with the extensions or the integration with TFS is not supported anymore. I have not found anything on this.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanx in advance!

How we can see installer cannot find a product to install this widget, but I can use TFS in my MS Visual Studio, I have my test project to check work this widget, can work on this projects web portal. Other widgets from marketplace also have this error. If I don't have TFS product on my computer, why can I use it?  How does TFS work on my computer? How can I resolve this problem? And how can I debug my custom widget? I search in internet but not found some helpful.

Thanks for help.

VS 2010 / TFS 2015 - Can connect to new TFS server, but some collections not available in Visual Studio

$

I am in the processing of migrating TFS (2010 -> 2015) to a new server (Windows Server 2008 r2 -> 2012).  I moved 3 collections (2 test and 1 inactive) over to the new server and can see them all in Team Foundation Server Administration Console on the server.  Every collection shows the expected team projects.  In VS 2010, I successfully added the new Team Foundation Server.  However, one of the collections I added does not appear in the list of Team Project Collections.  I used the exact same process when migrating the collections and I don't see any obvious differences in the settings between collections.  The next step I need to take is to migrate the active collections to the new server, but am nervous that the same problem could occur with these collections.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Currently i am using service account to fetch Tfs Team Project Collection details.

but now i want to do it through Personal access token(PAT) . I tried it using VssConnection,

but VssConnection is using different liabrary so i am not able to initialize TfsTeamProjectCollection class.

Though i am able to read the project collection using VssConnection  but it is not returning all the required field which TfsTeamProjectCollection  is returning.

Please suggest what are the possible ways to do it.

Thanks

Widget Failed to load

Suddenly some of my dashboard widgets fail to load. E.g the sprint overview widget looks like this:

The Details link reveals the message: Ajax request failed with status: SyntaxError: Invalid character.

We recently upgraded from TFS 2015U3 to TFS 2017. But the widgets already worked correctly on TFS2017 also for a few days. The only thing I did on the server in the meantime was to modify some of our work item templates.

What could be the reason for the error message above? How can I diagnose further? What can I do to fix this issue?

TFS build Error : Serilog already has a dependency defined for Microsoft.CSharp

We are trying to upgrade "Serilog" to the latest version 2.3.0. Everything builds and runs fine locally. But the build server is failing with the error 'Serilog already has a dependency defined for Microsoft.CSharp'. It must be because of old version of MSBuild on the server. Same thing happened when we tried to upgrade "Automapper" package as well. Can we get some idea about when or how this can be fixed?

Automate PBI Creation / IFTTT (TFS 2015 On Prem)

Hi Guys,

One of my teams use Trello and use IFTTT for when if it's a certain date, then certain cards appear on their to do board. So for example tomorrow is the 13th and a card for that particular day may appear, but on the 14th it will not.

Is there any way to replicate this in TFS?
