Is Visual Studio Needed on a TFS Build Server?
This may be a dumb question and I may have touched on it in other posts, but do I need to install Visual Studio when configuring my Build Server. When I was learning/testing I installed VS just so I could work on one machine, but if its not required I won't install when I create the production machine. I would like to keep that as bare-bones as possible.

Map and Migrate Azure SQL Data to TFS
Hi Guys!
Our project has concept of Branches, Changesets and Fields. Currently all our data is in Azure SQL. We need to map and migrate data to TFS. I took a look at the Object Models and ways to Extend the Team Foundation but does not give me specific answers.
Also checked the web but could not come across any article that can guide me. I am looking for useful instructions and information on :
How to map the Azure SQL data to TFS?
What Object Model or Tool is to be used? Or rather how can be accomplished in the best way?
Also our data is dynamic that means it expands on run time. It is not a fixed structure. In our project we can associate branches with several schema. And each schema has different fields.
Any information or suggestion is welcomed!

TFS 2012 Build service configuration
Hi All,
I am trying to configure my TFS Build service but there is a problem.
At the stage of verification, I am getting error without any details
I have found some info in log:
"Running AccountMatchesDefinition: Verifying that the account is valid in the context"
But I don't have a clue about this issue. Any help? What could possibly be wrong?

remove Backlog Priority from my PBI view, now that it auto fills
since the last update i can no longer use the Backlog Priority field to set the Priority for my PBI as a product owner. how do i adjust the PBI display to remove it from the view and show the Priority field instead?

TFS 2013 work item import access denied
Hi Gurus,
I have permission error since I have done the upgrade from TFS 2013 (RTM) to update 4, this is preventing me to import work item types, as it seems update 4 introduce a new work item typeShared Parameters,
I could confirm I am both collection and project Admin, and when I try to perform it via the command line command, it still same error,
I have follow up following post and try to re-add all the permission to my account

VS 2013 Cannot Open Team Explorer Window or Check in a file - Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Recently updated from VS 2012 to VS 2013 after running into a connectivity issue w/ TFS. I can Get Latest source code but cannot view Team Explorer Window in IDE or check in files. Resolution would be greatly appreciated. Initially, VS 2012 displayed an exception in the Team Explorer Window referring to ActivityLog.xml file. Summary of the .xml error is below:

Visual Studio 2015
I installed VisualStudio 2015 after uninstall VS2015 RC.
Now I have an error when i open TFS "Page '312e8a59-2712-48a1-863e-0ef4e67961fc' not found."
All my team have the same problem, except the developers that dind´t install the RC version before.

How do I view open files with TFS 2013 and not check them out?
We have VS 2013 TFS. Files are checked out automatically every time they are opened. I want to be able to load projects and study them in read only mode with out them being checked out. I would prefer to manually check a file out.
Is there a setting that will allow files to be opened and not check them out?

Test Case tab in Team Foundation Server 2013
Hello,
I wanted to confirm whether or not the "test case" tab is available only on TFS 2013 or if there is missing configuration on TFS 2010. Expanding on this question, if a user were to create test cases for a bug using Visual Studio Test Manager 2013 would another user be able to view the test cases created or would they only be able to view them if they have Visual Studio Test Manager 2013 installed.

Renaming branches without loosing history
I have a question about renaming branches in TFS 2010. I have 2 branches as follows :
Dev
|-> Project1
The team is now all working out of the Project1 branch so I want to do some renaming as follows - rename Dev to DevArchive and rename Project1 to Dev. Is there a way for me to do this so that I can preserve the history ? I tried it on my QA TFS2010 machine and after teh rename the previous history was gone.

Unwanted DBCC SHRINKDATABASE is being run on TFS Collection
Is there a TFS job that is run daily which would execute a DBCC SHRINKDATABASE? This process is being run every day on our principal collection (about 700 GB) and it practically brings us to our knees. Our indexes are badly fragmented after this is run.
We want to stop it from occurring, but don't know where is it occurring or how to configure it to not occur. We have verified that the AutoShrink setting in our collection's database is set to FALSE, so it is not being caused by that setting.

TFS 2012 Advanced configuration using SQL Server 2014 (using option to emulate SQL Server 2012 database)
Hello.
We're trying to install TFS 2012. We have VS 2012 and SQL Server 2014. We would rather not install SQL Server 2012 if we don't have to. We've tried using the option of creating the databases in advance on SQL Server 2014 with the emulate SQL Server 2012 database option turned on. However we get an error:
TF255146" Team Foundation Server requires SQL Server 2008 R2 or greater. SQL Server instance XXX you supplied is 12.0.2000.8
Does any one have any suggestions?

Web Admin Control Panel Blank
Hello,
I recently installed and configured a new TFS 2013 farm, with SharePoint. All was working well, but today the Web Access Admin Control Panel stopped allowing me to administer my collections.
Permissions seem to be fine for the Collection and Projects, I can create items through Visual Studio and I can amend settings in the Admin Console, but when I browse to http://servername:8080/TFS/_admin/_licenses the page is blank, except for the banner which has Control Panel, Access Levels and Extensions - I would post a screenshot but the site won't let me till my account's been verified.
It was working previously, there are no errors on any of the servers and permissions that have already been set still apply, the problem is that I now cannot apply new permissions to Projects.
Any help would be great.

How to get a Branch from a project on TFS 2013 to Visual Studio 2013

not solution or project files in this location. Please select a different location". If I try with Team Explorer + Power Tools or on VS 2010, I can
get the branch to my local work space without problem.
What I did to work with VS 2005 connected to TFS is:
VM with SO: Windows 7 and I installed the software according to the instructions that are in the following link:

TFS Team Web Access - Add a Windows User or Group Dialog
Scenario:
Two Team Project Collections in the same machine.
Issue:
What is the reason that the icon on the "Add a Windows User or Group" dialog in TWA changes from a down arrow to a magnifying glass?
Down Arrow
On one Team Project Collection and its team projects the dialog shows the following:
The behavior is normal, when typing the name of the user it autocompletes or displays the names that match.
Magnifying Glass
On the other Team Project Collection and its team projects the dialog shows (this icon changed, before it was an arrow):
The behavior is different, when typing the name of the user it doesn't autocomplete nor display the matches. Instead it returns error "TF400067:Unable to find or resolve the identity"

TFS Builds - Speed up get from source control
Hi,
I'm still using MSBUILD in TFS 2013 builds and I'm having a performance issue that I don't understand.
For example, a 4 minutes build.
2 minutes to get the code, 2 minutes to compile.
I'm getting all the team project from the TFS, but only the differences. I don't destroy the workspace between builds, and if I go to the Visual Studio and do a Get Latest it lasts +/- 5 seconds. On Build, it stucks 2 minutes on "Getting Sources".
I have all this properties set:
<SkipClean>true</SkipClean>
<SkipInitializeWorkspace>true</SkipInitializeWorkspace>
<ForceGet>false</ForceGet>
I even tried IncrementalBuild and Incremental Get = true.
Any tips?
