what is the Best Practice

$

Hi All,

When I am trying to Install TFS it is asking me to "Intall new Sql server " or "Use the existing sql server" . If i have existing sql server which is used by the Application ( all the application related tables ,SP..etc)  and if i choose to select the "use the existing data base" while installing TFS .Will that effect in the performance of the application ? because application uses the same data base as well Tfs also uses the same data base. wondering if some one can suggest mewhat is the best practice to use the same data base which is used by application or use the different data base for TFS

Thanks in advance.

One Scrum team, with a shared product Backlog between three PO using TFS 2013

Sorry, I have an important question, which I need your guidance.
We have a Scrum team, which concurrently working on 3 products, each of products has it's own PO and Backlog. We decided to combine all Product Backlog, which main all three PO add he's Backlog Items, added to the same Product Backlog, and team member select PBI from this Backlog Item. I should say we have a Super PO(PO's of PO) who's get all Backlog Items from all other three PO and add to the shared Product Backlog.
So, first of all, I want to know, does this approach is good and efficiency? If no, what approach we should Betteer choice?
And We use TFS as a Scrum life cycle management, but we don't shure TFS can do this approach-on Shared Backlog Item for different kinds of Backlog Items from different context and different PO.
Thanks a lot

Database cleanup & orphan test results

Hi

I'm using TFS2013.2 and I'm having a small database size collection.

my main collection size is 210GB (with 23GB of unused allocated by the SQL automatically).

i have already used the test attachment cleaner and followed all the posts about this issue so I'm pretty sure that

the configuration is correct.

i have also removed the code sense index as it was causing size problems.

i have also clean old and unused workspaces.

and still the size is around the 200GB.

running the table size report

we see that there is 90GB of content (nothing can be done here..)

and also 43GB of test results....

this is after i saw the build retention policy does not include test results.

i queried the tbl_testrun table to get a list of old build Uris (about 3.5K of builds) i tried via command line and got time out

so i wrote a small code with tfs api. i got about 500 errors about invalid build uri.

i double checked and it was not found in the tbl_build. but there were references int he tbl_testrun with records in tbl_testrsult.

i wish to remove this historical test data as it is taking a lot of space, how can i perform this?

how can i remove these orphan test results?

also how can i increase tfs timeout?

thank you

How to use "Publish Code Coverage Results"?

Hello Community,

I would like to publish code coverage statistics on TFS 2015 but it does not work.

I used MinGW and gcov to compile the project.
I executed the programm to get the gcov files.
I used python and gcovr to get a summary file in cobertury format.

All These steps are working but the publishing step does not work as expected. It generates the following log:

Das PowerShell-Skript wird ausgeführt: C:\TfsBuildAgent\tasks\PublishCodeCoverageResults\1.0.3\PublishCodeCoverageResults.ps1
Starting 'Publish-CodeCoverage' cmdlet...
Publishing coverage summary data to TFS server.
Publishing additional files to TFS server.

What can I do to make it work?

Thanks,

Republish deleted nuget package

Oher implementations of the nuget feed are allowing to make nuget push after nuget delete for a package with the same name and the same version, but TFS implementation dose not. That is the correct way to republish nuget package into TFS nuget feed?

VSTS - Git - server or cloud

We are using VSTS with Git. We imported our existing Git repositories already. What I'm trying to determine now is where the code is actually "living." Is it still on our servers, or did it move to the cloud? I haven't been able to find any sort of diagram with the actual underlying architecture, only references to "remote repo." (Possibly an easy question, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer and it is potentially a privacy issue for us.)

Profile photo removal

Hi,

Management does not want any of us to add our photo to our account so, after adding my photo (before this announcement)I'm now trying to remove it.

This is how I tried to remove it...

With programmer authority, I started by clicking on the configuration gear from the web portal home page in the upper right, which opened a new tab in my browser.

Then I clicked the down arrow next to my name on the upper right of that new tab and selected My Profile from the pop-up window options.

I then clicked on Change Picture (by the way, my picture is not seen in this pop-up window) and then clicked on Reset from the pop-up window that appeared.

I clicked on Save Changes, which closed the window.

I closed the other pop-up window.

I closed the tab, refreshed the application and my photo was still there.

I tried closing the application and then reopening it but, there I was still.

How do I remove this photo?

Authentication Issues from Visual Studio 2013 & 2015 client

We have a geographically dispersed development team (different companies & organizations) with a centralized TFS (2015) instance.  The TFS is a member of a domain that is CLO enabled (utilizing hard token PKI smartcard) that has no trust with any of the domains of the development team.  We are able to authenticate using the TFS web interface, but it fails to authenticate when trying to add the server in Visual Studio.  We also have a TFS 2013 instance we are migrating from, this is not an issue with 2013 as it prompts for user credentials.  In 2015 it does not allow entry of other credentials, just gives error message.

Pull request completed even though I reviewed my own changes

My team has a Git repository in VSTS that has branch policies set on the master branch.  In the policy, we require the minimum number of reviewers to be 1, and the "Allow users to review their own code" is unchecked, and the "<label class="policy-self-approve" for="policy-reviewer-allow-downvotes">Pull request can be completed even if some reviewers rejected changes" is unchecked.  As I understand this, this should mean that for each commit, someone other than the committer must review that change for the pull request to be able to be completed.</label>

<label class="policy-self-approve" for="policy-reviewer-allow-downvotes">Another developer checked in some changes and created a pull request.  There was a problem in his code.  Normally I would simply send it back to them to fix, but being new to these branch policies, I wanted to test it out.  So I fixed the problem and pushed my changes back into the source stream.  I then went back into the web interface to review the pull request, and saw that my changes were now included in the pull request.  I hadn't done anything to include them, they were just part of the request now.  On the pull request review screen I was able to approve the changes that were pending, including mine.  Once I did so, the pull request was completed and all changes, including mine, were now visible in the master branch.</label>

It seems like the intent of the branch policies is to prevent users from committing un-reviewed changes to a controlled code branch, yet the implementation seems to only care about who submitted the pull request, not whose changes are included in the pull request.  Am I missing something in the setup of the branch policies, either that would prevent additional changes from being included in the pull request, or that would truly prevent a user from reviewing their own code?<label class="policy-self-approve" for="policy-reviewer-allow-downvotes"></label>

Visual Studio 2015 Update 3

I created a solution with  a project in Visual Studio Online / TSF Source Control. When I create a second project under the solution there is no option anywhere to add this project to source control.  This is happening on every computer I try it on.

I tried removing and reading the project. Closing and opening Visual Studio, Totally deleting everything and restarting.. and the problem keeps happening.

TFS2017 - unable to enable the new work item form

$

Hello-

I just upgraded from TFS 2013 to TFS 2017.  Very nice improvements!

I am trying to "Enable the new work item form" on the Collection Overview settings/control panel page.  I click that, then do the "Create new layout" button, then "Configure the opt-in model", change to "Enable opt-in for all users" and click Save.  I'm not getting the new work item form option to display- for either regular users or for users who are Collection Administrators.  If I go back to  the Control Panel Collection Overview page, it then shows"Enable the new work item form" as if I didn't do that.

A couple of notes: we're running Urban Turtle and so I've had to temporarily "turn off new navigation" because the Urban Turtle plug-in isn't showing the Urban Turtle menus (they state that they're going to be releasing a new plug-in soon.)  Oddly, once I did that, I am unable to "Turn on new navigation" back on!  This might be a part of the problem...?  The new navigation was in place until I disabled it for UT.

Also, not sure if it's important- I'm using a slightly modified Agile template for Work Items.

Thanks for any help!  Andrew

For years, I've used TFS as my source control without much problem.   A couple of days ago, I went to make a change to an open solution and it couldn't connect.    Since then I have not been able to connect to TFS at all from Visual Studio.    I try adding the server (https://mydoman.visualstudio.com/tfs) without success.
