TFS Excel Add-In: Change Query Source Programatically / Macro

$

I would like to change TFS Excel Add-in List Query programmatically using excel macro.

I have requirement to provide bulk edit work items functionality using ASP.Net Web Application. I am planning to create pre-defined excel template (Bind with Empty TFS Query) and copying it to web server. I am creating TFS Query programmatically based on user input (work item id) and downloading this template file on client when user request "Bulk Edit" functionality. I want to run macro which will update TFS Excel Query and refresh list pragmatically. I tried sample app to refresh TFS Excel list (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/team_foundation/2010/11/06/programming-for-the-tfs-excel-add-in/) which is helpful but I would also like to change "List Query". I also tried accessing TFS Excel custom properties to change connection string or query but not sure which property and how? I need input for following items

1. Change TFS Excel Add-in List Query programmatically using excel macro OR

2. Update TFS Excel Custom Property to update Server / Query name and refresh list

Error while quering Git repository: API resource location is not registered on...

Greetings to everyone!

I'm trying to access Git (on TFS) repository programmaticaly throught TFS API using following code:

GitRepositoryService grs = GetDefaultTeamProjectCollection().GetService<GitRepositoryService>();
            var a = grs.QueryRepositories("KdlTest");

But I get error while quering repository:

Microsoft.VisualStudio.Services.WebApi.VssResourceNotFoundException: API resource location 225f7195-f9c7-4d14-ab28-a83f7ff77e1f is not registered onhttp://tfs.someurl.com:8080/tfs

TFS version is 2015. Git repository exists and developers are using it through VS. Connection to Team Project Collection goes fine.

I tried to find info about this error, but no luck :( Maybe some components are missing on my TFS, but I dont know which of them.

I even don't know what is "TFS API resouce".

Extension Update doesn't seem to work

I've developed a custom extension for TFS 2015 Update 3. It's a custom build and deploy task if it matters.

I've used the web interface to upload the extension, and that appears to work fine. However, when I use the Update function from the dropdown to the left of the icon in the extensions list, it doesn't seem to actually update. The version number listed In the extensions changes, but the input fields, and script that gets executed does not seem to actually update.

I have to remove the extension, then re-upload it to get the changes.

Is there any specific trick to get the update function to actually update the extension? I've bumped the version number on both the vss-extension.json and the task.json, but that doesn't seem to do anything. In addition, when I update the extension and click "Install" it says it's already installed.

I'm referring to this function:

TFS 2015 - Cannot update Build Retention

I am using TFS 2015 Update 2 and I am a TFS Administrator.

Through the web portal, I cannot update things like "Delete Build record". The few fields (i.e. Days to keep) that I can update, seem to be on a Collection basis only and I cannot find where/how to update based on a Team Project basis. Finally, I would like to know how to keep builds and records permanently.

Thanks,

Dwayne

TAG

Is tag used to link work items, I mean EPIC, to Feature and Feature to Requirements and so on? Is a tag defined on the go while creating the work item? or is it defined elsewhere prior? I ask this because I read wrongly spelled tags will be deleted in 3 days

I am trying to run a task on TFS which requires AD set up. I managed to set up all connections, but for some reason Subscription on TFS is not selected.
I am not sure to what account do I have to log in, to set default subscription. -Default parameter is deprecated btw.

Hi all,
I've been exploring the capabilities of TFS regarding showing the owner of comment in code review phase. For the review which has multiple reviewers, we want to show the comments with its owners. Could you please help about it ? If it is possible like customizing other type of work items, would you please show the way of handling this feature ?

Daily cards

Hi Guys,

I am creating a board for a team who have a number of cards/PBIs to get through in a month. The team is moving from Trello to TFS and want to know if there is a way we can allow for certain functionality in TFS.

Some cards are jobs that need to be run on certain days, they only appear on the board on that day (so for example, something that needs to be run on a monday would only appear on a monday, not on a tuesday).

Any advice as to how this could be replicated/accomodated in TFS 2015 on the kanban board would be appreciated.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Nick

Kanban Done Column Question - TFS 2013

Hi,

How does TFS order the Work Items in the 'Done' column on the Kanban board? We have both Bugs and PBIs tracked. I have the process configuration set to order by Backlog Priority. But the Done column doesn't seem to be ordering that way. We have lower priority (and older) work items showing up at the top and it is an annoyance. Trying to re-order in excel doesn't seem to affect the order in the Done column. Any idea to explain why the order is not following the rule of Backlog Priority the way the other columns are would be very helpful!

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi. I posted this question under Installation, but the moderators suggested I post here instead.

We have Microsoft Test Manager 2015 installed (and we have a Visual Studio Enterprise 2015). We are able to enter and run testcases successfully in Test Manager itself, but when we try to access the TEST link in our TFS website, we get the following error below. This happens for users that have ADVANCED permissions in TFS. (We tried enabling Browse in the _scripts directory, but are still seeing the problem.) Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

TFS Upgrade warning - TF402629 - TFS 2013 Update 5 to TFS 2015 Update 2

$

Hi,

We upgraded TFS 2013 Update 5 to TFS 2015 Update 2:

I have the following questions and need your inputs:

1. I received the warning during project collections upgrade. will this break any of the TFS functionalities

[2016-07-11 19:12:40Z][Warning] TF402629: The database encountered an error while indexing long text field values for work items. While you may use the upgraded server, work item query results against long text fields may be incomplete. Work with your database administrator to fix the errors that are logged in the full-text crawl log. Then, resume the full-text index population by running the following command against the collection database: ALTER FULLTEXT INDEX ON WorkItemLongTexts RESUME POPULATION.

2. We installed and upgraded to TFS 2015 in the new hardware. After upgrade I see both old App server(Tfs2013.Update5) and new App Server(Tfs2015.Update2) in the App Tier in the Admin console

Please let us know your inputs.

Many thanks

Venkat

Custom Alerts Not Working in TFS 2015

Hi,
I recently upgraded and migrated from TFS 2010 to TFS 2015. After the migration custom alerts are not working. We've even deleted the custom alerts and recreated them. Still they don't work. The SMTP settings are correct and test e-mails work.

We have checked the following:
a. The alert is for the correct project

b. someone else on the team assigned them a work item.

c. that this registry key is set to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

d. Don't see any errors in the table

Check box control for TFS On-Premise ?

I see that a checkbox can be added with VSTS but we have an on premise TFS and currently on version TFS 2015 Update 2.1.

Is there anyway to setup a drop down with a check list of values?

I see that I can create a new field and select "boolean" as the type. This does give me a checkbox but I am looking for a drop down with options that I can check like below:

Field name "QA Resource Needs" with a dropdown that has the following values as checkboxes:

Automation Testing (check box)

Manual Testing (check box)

Load Testing (check box)

Thanks for any help!

Run PowerShell Script on Work Item Status Change

Hi all

What would be the preferred way to run a PowerShell script based on events in TFS, namely when the status of a work item changes?

We would like to use PowerShell to update a peripheral system whenever the status of a work item in TFS changes.

Thanks!

Stefan

TFS 2015 Coded UI Testing?

$

We are on TFS 2015 Update 2.1 and I wanted to ask about coded UI testing using the test agents.

In the older test environment, you needed a test controller and a test agent but with the newer test environment you don't need a test controller.

With the newer build system, you can create multiple build agents on one workstation.

My question are:

1) Can you setup multiple test agents on one workstation?

2) Can you use build agents for coded UI tests?

Thanks,

Entity Framework connection string vs Release Management

TFS version: 2015 Update 3

I set up a Release Definition from Azure Website Deployment template. I wanted to put my Entity Framework-like connection string:

-connectionString @{"$(ConnectionStringName)"="metadata=res://*/SomeModel.csdl|res://*/SomeModel.ssdl|res://*/SomeModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient; provider connection string="data source=tcp:$(ServerName).database.secure.windows.net,1433;initial catalog=$(DatabaseName);User ID=$(AdministratorLogin)@$(ServerName);Password=$(AdministratorLoginPassword);Trusted_Connection=False;Encrypt=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True; App=EntityFramework""}
The problem is, it puts " instead of " to Web.config. Is there any workaround?

test plan in TFS

Hi,

I'm pretty new with TFS but what I'd like to have is a test plan ( with suites....test cases...) not associated to any sprint

Is it possible to get such configuration?
