is SCVMM necessary to connect with build server 2012 ?

Hi ,

 I have TFS2012, Buid server 2012 and Test controller 2013 lab setup. All are configured in different machines as lab environment. when our developer trying to connect buid server 2012 from VS2013. Getting error message. It asks to configure SCVMM and add our developer machine to connect. we are not using virtual machines. Is SCVMM necessary for TFS lab environment ?.
